Soper Creek ball diamond scores $110k grant for upgrades

Clarington’s passion for baseball is paying off. The municipality has announced it is one of this year’s recipients of the Jays Care Foundation’s Field of Dreams grant, receiving nearly $110,000 to upgrade the hardball diamond at Soper Creek Park in Bowmanville.

Construction at Soper Creek Park (133 Simpson Avenue) is expected to begin later this year, with the upgraded diamond set to reopen in time for the 2026 baseball season.

The grant—made possible through Jays Care and TD—will fund significant improvements aimed at creating a safer and more inclusive environment for local athletes. Planned enhancements include new players’ benches, a new backstop, improved grading, and covered dugouts to provide shade and shelter from the rain.

The announcement was revealed during a Watch Party on Sunday, May 4, at the Garnet B. Rickard Recreation Complex, where more than 500 residents, young athletes, and baseball fans gathered. The event hall erupted in cheers as Clarington was recognized live on national television as one of the grant recipients.

Also in attendance were Councillor Sami Elhajjeh, Regional Councillor Willie Woo, Mayor Adrian Foster, MPP Todd McCarthy, and Councillor Margaret Zwart.

Clarington expressed gratitude to Jays Care Foundation for helping the municipality build high-quality recreational infrastructure.
