Suspended driver caught impaired with fake documents

A man is facing several charges after a traffic stop in Whitby led to the discovery of fake documents and a failed roadside breath test, according to Durham police.

At around 2 am on Wednesday, July 16, officers from Central West Division were conducting proactive patrols in the area of Dundas Street East and Brock Street when they stopped a vehicle. Police say the driver initially provided false identification documents and was taken into custody.

After the arrest, officers suspected the man had been drinking and administered a roadside breath test, which he failed. Investigators later confirmed the suspect’s true identity and found that he was prohibited from driving and had a suspended licence.

A 35-year-old male from Ajax was charged and held for a bail hearing.
