The Whitby detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is investigating a fatal two-vehicle collision that occurred on Highway 7 near the 6th Concession in Pickering on the evening of Monday, July 15.
According to police, the crash happened around 7 pm and involved two SUVs. Investigators say the westbound SUV crossed into the eastbound lane and collided head-on with another SUV.
An 82-year-old female, who was the sole occupant of the eastbound vehicle, was pronounced dead at the scene.
In the westbound SUV, four people were inside. The 63-year-old male driver and a 70-year-old male passenger were transported to hospital with serious injuries. The two rear passengers, both females aged 63 and 68, were pronounced dead at the scene.
Police say there is no indication that alcohol, mechanical failure, or weather were contributing factors. All occupants were believed to have been wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash.
The highway was closed for several hours to allow the OPP’s investigation team to document and clear the scene. It has since reopened.
