Police remove 8 dogs from home after dog assault report

A 48-year-old Oshawa man has been charged after police say he assaulted a dog.

According to the Durham Regional Police Service (DRPS), members of the Central West Criminal Investigations Branch launched an investigation following a report of animal abuse involving a dog.

With assistance from provincial Animal Welfare Services (AWS) and Oshawa By-law officers, investigators executed a Criminal Code search warrant at a residence near Stevenson Road South and Montcalm Avenue.

During the search, eight dogs were removed from the property, including the dog believed to have been assaulted. All animals were taken into the care of AWS and are currently being assessed and treated as needed.

The 48-year-old suspect from Oshawa was charged and released on an undertaking.
