Oshawa to convert Colborne and Brock to two-way streets

The City of Oshawa has announced two separate infrastructure projects set to begin next week, aimed at improving road operations and maintaining essential infrastructure.

Following a feasibility study and public consultation, Oshawa city council has approved converting Colborne Street East (from Centre Street North to Division Street) and Brock Street East (from Simcoe Street North to Division Street) from one-way to two-way traffic operations.

To implement the change, the city will undertake the process of repainting and re-signing the affected streets. The work will include the installation of new stop signs where needed, removal of one-way signage, and painting 15-metre yellow centre lines at each intersection.

The city’s contractor is expected to begin work on or about July 21, with completion anticipated within a few days. The schedule may be affected by weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances.

Culvert replacement on Howden Road West

The city has also awarded Contract No. O 25-09 to Sierra Excavating Enterprises Inc. to carry out the replacement of the culvert along Howden Road West, approximately 800 metres east of Thornton Road North. Construction is scheduled from July through September.

Work will include the excavation and removal of the existing structure, installation of a new culvert, temporary flow bypass and dewatering measures, embankment reinstatement, erosion control using waterbody aggregates, replacement of guide rails, and asphalt paving over the structure and approaches.

During construction, all affected streets will remain open to local and emergency traffic. However, there will be no through access from Thornton Road North to Simcoe Street North along Howden Road West. Detour signage will be in place to guide residents around the work site.
