The Brock Township Fire Department is reminding residents of the dangers and legal consequences of trespassing and arson after responding to a suspicious fire in Cannington.
On June 18, the fire department responded to a report of a fire in a vacant building. Upon arrival, firefighters found evidence suggesting the fire was suspicious in nature.
According to the township, “it is believed that this vacant building is frequently accessed by children and teenagers. The fire department is urging parents and guardians to speak with young people about the risks involved.
“The fire department is issuing this public reminder that such actions carry serious consequences – including criminal charges.”
Officials emphasized the life-threatening danger fires can pose. “Fires grow and spread quickly, posing significant danger to life, property, and the community,” the statement read. “What may appear as harmless mischief to some can quickly lead to devastating and irreversible consequences.”
