Durham police have confirmed that a woman found dead following a house fire in Pickering was the victim of a homicide.
All three murders so far in 2025 have been in Pickering. The first one was when police reported finding a man’s body on May 2. The second one related to a 14-year old boy who stabbed an elderly woman on May 29 (see stories below).
The third murder was discovered when emergency crews were called to a home near Primrose Court and Fairport Road around 2:20 pm on June 11. A 69-year-old woman was found deceased inside the residence.
Following a post-mortem examination, investigators from the Durham Regional Police Homicide Unit have taken over the case. Police say this marks the region’s third homicide of the year.
On Tuesday, June 17, a 34-year-old woman, of Pickering was arrested, charged and held for a bail hearing. Name and further details available at www.drps.ca.
An additional suspect has been identified and the investigation remains ongoing. At this time, investigators believe this to be an isolated incident and there is no threat to public safety.
