Traffic delays caused by fire in Whitby, crash in Ajax

Durham Regional Police Service (DRPS) officers yesterday were diverting traffic in the area of Thickson Road and Victoria Street in Whitby after a fire erupted.

Whitby Fire was in the area for the fire call. “Heavy vehicle congestion is expected. Please consider alternative routes,” said a DRPS alert.

Traffic delays were also caused by a major collision on Highway 401 in Ajax, following which a woman was declared dead (visit www.durhampost.ca) for the full story).

Oshawa Fire and Ajax Fire to rushed to Whitby to help put out the blaze.

Thank you to Oshawa Fire and Ajax Fire for your assistance, said a Whitby Fire update.

Fire crews have the fire under control. Operation’s continuing to ensure fire extinguishment, it added.

DRPS too alerted that the fire had been extinguished and police were clearing the area. “Thank you to everyone for your patience.”
