Two paramedics in hospital as dump truck hits ambulance +

Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Highway Safety Division yesterday said two paramedics had to be taken to hospital after their ambulance was struck by a dump truck on Highway 401.

The ambulance was then pushed into a fire truck that was also at a scene of a vehicle rollover at Bennett Road in the Municipality of Clarington.

The 67-year-old driver of the dump truck is now charged with careless driving, OPP said.

This is the third incident in recent months when emergency personnel have been hurt while at the scene of a collision in Durham.

Impaired Stunt Driver Caught In Same Area

OPP Highway Safety Division said yesterday Whitby OPP stopped a stunt driver at 1:14 am in the morning.

The vehicle was travelling 189kmh (image above) on Highway 401 westbound at Bennett Road in Clarington.

The 31-year-old driver provided a breath sample into an Approved Screening Device and registered an ‘Alert’, resulting in a seven-day driver’s licence suspension for alcohol.

The driver was also issued a 30-day licence suspension and a 14-day vehicle impoundment.
