Two youth who crashed stolen car caught with fake gun

Durham Police yesterday said two youth have been charged after crashing a stolen vehicle in Oshawa.

On Sunday, April 23 at about 10:35 pm, members of Central East Division observed a vehicle in the area of Renaissance Drive and Park Road South travelling southbound at a high rate of speed. Police attempted to catch up to the vehicle, however the vehicle maintained high speeds and police discontinued the chase for public safety.

Shortly after, officers located the vehicle which had crashed in the area of Cedar Street and Stone Street in Oshawa. The vehicle was determined to be stolen and multiple parties fled from the vehicle. The driver and a passenger were arrested nearby without incident, said a police statement.

A replica firearm as well as an extended magazine was seized from the vehicle.

A 17-year-old male from Oshawa is facing seven charges, including: Unauthorized Possession of Prohibited Device and Possession or Property Obtained by Crime over $5000.

He was held for a bail hearing.

A 17-year-old female from Oshawa is charged with Possession of Property Obtained by Crime over $5000.

She was released on an undertaking, police said.
