Clarington has sent out a notice warning residents of a new type of unpaid parking ticket scam that is going around.
“The Municipality of Clarington have been made aware of a recent scam in the area where residents are receiving text messages and emails from the municipality about outstanding parking tickets, requesting they pay the outstanding fees online,” said a statement.
It said the municipality does not provide communications about outstanding parking tickets via text or email. If you receive one, do not click on the link and do not provide any personal or financial information. If you’re unsure about whether your parking ticket is legitimate, please contact 905-623-3379 ext. 2105.

- Change your passwords frequently
- Never send money, gift cards or cryptocurrency to someone you don’t know
- Share your story with others – your family, friends, neighbours, and any seniors you know as they are often targeted by fraudsters
- Utilizing 211 before reacting to any requests
You can report scams like these to the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre.
