Victim says he was shot in a park in Whitby, is now stable

Durham Police are searching for a suspect after a shooting in Whitby, in which a male was injured.

On Tuesday, October 17 at about 2:40 pm, members of Central West Division responded to multiple reports of gun shots in the area of Westfield Drive and Des Newman Boulevard in Whitby.

Officers arrived on scene and spoke with numerous witnesses who heard multiple gun shots. No victims were located on scene, however, police located numerous shell casings.

A short time later, police were advised that a victim attended a local area hospital suffering from a gunshot wound. The victim stated that he was shot in a park near the reported area, said a police statement.

The victim is in stable condition.

This appears to be an isolated incident. At this time there are no safety concerns to the public.
