York swat unit called to break in and arrest barricaded man

Durham Police yesterday said a 46-year-old male is facing charges after assaulting a female and making death threats.

On Monday October 3 at past midnight, members of Central East Division responded to an assault call at a residence in the area of Marland Avenue and Montrave Avenue in Oshawa.

Police arrived on scene and found the victim with minor injuries. The victim was taken out of the residence, said a police statement.

However, the suspect had barricaded himself in a bedroom and was reported to be in possession of weapons.

“Negotiations with the male to exit the bedroom were unsuccessful. York Regional Police Service’s Emergency Response Unit attended and were able to enter the bedroom. The male was taken into custody without incident,” the statement said.

The suspect was charged and held for a bail hearing. Name and further details available at www.drps.ca.

Anyone with new information about this investigation is asked to contact Cst. Friesen of Central East Division at 1-888-579-1520 ext. 2410.

Editor’s Note: Durham Post does not name the accused as:
1. Of this time, they are suspects and not convicted, and
2. Sometimes charges are dropped or amended.
