Bowmanville Community Park in detailed phase 1 design stage

Bowmanville Community Park project on the former lands of the Bowmanville Zoo, has advanced to the detailed design of Phase 1, according to  the Municipality of Clarington.

The Bowmanville Community Park project master plan was approved in the fall 2024 (see below).

Phase 1 of this project includes the development of a trail network and a structural and heritage assessment of the existing bridge structure within the park. Construction is set to begin in fall 2025, with the trails expected to open to the public in summer 2026.

In 2018, Clarington Council approved the acquisition of 13.7 hectares (34 acres) of land from the previous Bowmanville Zoo lands. On August 24, 2021, the land was officially transferred to municipal ownership.

An initial Park Concept was prepared by Valleys 2000 through a design workshop that included members of the community representing various interests. Continued conversation, engagement and consultation with the community further refined plans for a 34-acre Bowmanville Park. This updated concept was presented at a special General Government Committee meeting on September 16.

On October 28, Clarington Council approved the Master Plan for Bowmanville Park.
