Brock receives $100,000 through Tourism Relief Fund

The Township of Brock has announced that it has received $100,000 from York, Durham Headwaters through FedDev Ontario to attracts visitors and support future growth.

Brock received a non-repayable contribution of $100,000 from Central Counties Tourism (RTO6) to help local tourism organizations and businesses safely welcome back visitors, recover from the impacts of the pandemic, create jobs and prepare for future growth. This is part of the Government of Canada’s Tourism Relief Fund, delivered by the Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario (FedDev Ontario). RTO6 received $8.65 million from FedDev Ontario to help local tourism organizations and businesses safely welcome back visitors, recover from the impacts of the pandemic and prepare for future growth.

It said the tourism sector is vital to the economy and jobs in Brock and wider Durham.

“The local economy consists of agricultural, commercial and industrial businesses that are located throughout the municipality. Brock provides an abundance of recreation opportunities for each season of the year. The Township of Brock is a gateway into cottage country where most visitors will travel through the township enroute to their next destination, said a statement.

This provides the township with the perfect opportunity to capture those visitors with appealing locations and activities. The beautification of the downtowns plays a major role in creating an inviting atmosphere for guests to stay longer and spend more. Tourism encourages an influx of outside spending that is circulated among the community and directly to small- and medium-sized business owners and local employers.

Seasonal activities offered throughout the township helps to create employment, generate tax revenue, and drives the overall growth of the economy for Brock and the Region of Durham. With a population of 11,500 people and limited resources, tourism contributes greatly to our local economy, the township pointed out.

“The Township of Brock and our residents are grateful for this much-needed funding, which has been utilized to enhance Brock’s appeal as a tourism destination. Strategic investment in tourism is important for Brock Township, and this funding support has and continues to ensure these investments deliver positive results for our township,” said Walter Schummer, Brock Mayor.
