Bystander tries to stop phone dispute, gets attacked with knife

A weapons prohibition did not stop a man from assaulting a woman with a knife in Oshawa.

On Saturday, July 4, around 10:30 in the morning, members of Central East Division responded to an armed person call in the area of King Street and Simcoe Street.

A man was involved in a physical altercation with another man over a cell phone. During the altercation, the suspect brandished a knife and assaulted an unrelated woman when she attempted to stop the dispute.

Several bystanders intervened and secured the man until police arrived and took him into custody.

The victim sustained minor injuries.

The 41-year old man from Oshawa was held for a bail hearing. Name and further details available at www.drps.ca.
