Clarington reopens newly transformed Veterans’ Square

The Municipality of Clarington yesterday announced that the Veterans’ Square in Bowmanville has reopened following extensive renovations to create a new vibrant, welcoming, and accessible public space.

The new Veterans’ Square features additional flag poles and raised gardens, accessible seating, paved pathways, a service animal relief area and several mobility device charging stations. It also has tactile walking surface indicators, which are detectable underfoot when walking or using a cane.

Veterans’ Square is a cherished and significant community space that honours the bravery and sacrifice of soldiers from our community and is the focal point of Bowmanville’s Remembrance Day Service. The renovations provide more opportunities for residents to connect with the community and honour the sacrifices and achievements of those who served in Canada’s military in times of war, military conflict and peace, said a municipal statement.

Mayor Foster and members of Clarington Council, along with representatives from the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 178 and dignitaries, were on site to help mark the occasion.

The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 178, which was consulted on the design, led a commemorative ceremony to mark the reopening of the space.
