Ontario Power Generation (OPG) yesterday said as of the end of June, the four-unit Darlington Refurbishment project was 86 per cent complete, exceeding all safety, quality, schedule and financial forecasts.
The Clarington project’s total cost is continuing to track to the $12.8 billion budget, OPG said.
“The refurbishment of the four Darlington units remains on plan for completion by the end of 2026, as committed.Unit 1 is on track to complete in Q4 2024, ahead of plan. Unit 4 is progressing on plan,” said a project update.
It said the end of the second quarter of 2024 marked major milestones on the refurbishment of the last two units at the Darlington Nuclear Station, notably Unit 1 reactor and supporting systems undergoing tests in preparation for regulatory approval to restart the unit in Q4 of this year and work progressing through reactor fuel channel removal and the turbine generator system on Unit 4.
The Darlington Nuclear Refurbishment Project is 86 per cent complete in its 10-year execution phase, exceeding all safety, quality, schedule, and financial forecasts. Resource optimization reviews continued for prioritization during Units 1 and 4 overlap. Darlington Units 2 and 3, each successfully refurbished and previously returned to service, continue operating at full capacity, said OPG.
