Day traffic hit as tractor-trailer crash fire shuts down Hwy 401

A tractor-trailer crash and fire on eastbound Highway 401 near Ritson Road in Oshawa caused significant traffic delays and lane closures yesterday, according to the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Highway Safety Division.

The incident occurred early Tuesday morning when a tractor-trailer struck a concrete wall, resulting in a fire. The truck was carrying new aluminum cans.

While the collision caused extensive disruption, police confirmed that no injuries were reported.

Initially, all eastbound lanes were closed. OPP reopened lane one shortly after the incident, but lanes two and three remained closed throughout the day to allow for emergency road repairs and cleanup. Access to Highway 401 from Bloor Street was also restricted during the response.

Cleanup operations took several hours and extended into the evening.
