Drivers ignore stop sign – and guard – at school crossing

Durham Regional Police Service (DRPS) yesterday reported a continuous stream of drivers who ignored this stop sign (top image) as well as the crossing guard ensuring student safety near a school.

DRPS Central West Division officers were on scene yesterday morning for reports of vehicles going straight through this stop sign when the crossing guard has traffic stopped.

“Use extreme caution when driving in areas where crossing guards are working hard to keep children safe,” they advised.

Snow or no snow, Durham drivers are a confident lot.

DRPS Road Safety reported a motorist driving with no lights… in this weather is not safe; having a G1 and being alone is not safe – and oh, and your three-year old should be secured in the car seat … saying you didn’t know the rules isn’t an excuse. These roads are risky without the added dangers. Driver charged.

North Division officers said these drivers (below) were stopped for speeding 79 and 80 in a posted 50kmh zone in Scugog during their morning commute.

Please plan ahead, slow down and drive safely, the said.
