Durham Police pays tribute to K9 Bingo killed in gunfire

Durham Regional Police Service (DRPS) yesterday paid tribute to Police Service Dog (PSD) Bingo who was killed during a police operation in Toronto on the night of July 25.

Yesterday morning DRPS K9 Unit paid tribute and saluted Toronto Police Service’ K9 Bingo as he was being transported to Guelph University.

“Thank you to our K9 unit for covering calls in Toronto so that members could participate in the procession,” said a police tweet.

Toronto Police said its K9 team and Bingo’s partner Sgt. Brandon Smith were joined by many other officers in paying their respects to the police dog lost in the line of duty with a procession along Yonge Street yesterday morning.

Earlier, Chief Myron Demkiw said Bingo was killed in the line of duty by gunfire tonight. “Thank you for keeping our members safe and thank you for your service. My deepest condolences to his partner and to all of our TPS K9 unit.”

Meanwhile, flags at Durham Regional Headquarters (below) were half-masted today in honour of Toronto Police Service dog, Bingo, who passed away in the line of duty in Etobicoke on Tuesday.
