G2 driver crams 10 friends into car + instructor with phone

It is an unusual incident that makes up for an otherwise routine day for traffic officers. But yesterday was a bonus when Durham Regional Police Service (DRPS) members came across a few interesting ones.

DRPS North Division officers reported that a G2 driver in Port Perry was charged for having more passengers than seatbelts.

“There was a total of 10 youths inside this 5-seater Chevy Cruze (top image), and only two wearing seatbelts,” said the officer.

“This type of stunt driving is unsafe and dangerous,” police pointed out.

Meanwhile, DRPS East Division, which is on a cellphone blitz in and around Clarington, had its own case of the saying: “Do as I say, not as I do”.

It caught a driving instructor (image below) talking on their cell phone while driving. The driver was, of course, fined.

Fortunately, no students were in the car, police said.

Suspended X2

East Division officers also came across a driver of this vehicle (image below), which had a loud, modified muffler which caught the attention of officers.

A traffic stop and further investigation revealed that the driver was suspended x2.

Keep your vehicle in good repair, and don’t drive while suspended, police advised.

Multiple Violations

DRPS East Division patrolling on Harmony and Taunton came across a vehicle (image below) with no muffler, defective brakes, excessive noise, colour-code tint to the drivers side and passenger side.

Ensure your vehicle is in road worthy condition, they said not mentioning the fine.

East Division, meanwhile, said cellphone/distracted driving, second offence = $615 now, but once you go to court and challenge the ticket = 7 day suspension.

Using your cell phone while driving is not worth it, they said.

Stunt Driving

North Division Traffic, meantime, conducted speed enforcement in Scugog yesterday morning.

A driver charged with stunt – excessively speeding. The motorist’s driving licence was suspended for 30 days and the vehicle impounded for 14 days.

“Please pay attention to and obey the speed limit!” police said.
