Impaired caught with alcohol within reach of unsecured toddler

Durham Regional Police Service (DRPS) yesterday said officers have charged a woman motorist for driving impaired, and with an unsecured toddler in the vehicle.

“Thanks to a 911 call… officers were able to get an impaired driver off the road. This driver had open alcohol in the car and a toddler not secured in a car seat,” said the DRPS.

It said the incident occurred on Sunday February 12 at about 9 pm in Oshawa.

Following a call, officers from the DRPS Central East Division located the vehicle and stopped it in the area of Simcoe Street South and Westbound 401.

Officers observed a small child in the back and not in a car seat. Open alcohol was within the child’s reach.

A 35-year old woman from Oshawa was charged, police said.
