Knockdown fire attack contains home blaze from spreading

Whitby Fire & Emergency Services swung into action yesterday evening as a home blaze threatened to get out of control.

“Fire Crews encountered an active fire inside a residence with fire conditions extending into the roof area,” said a Whitby Fire alert yesterday evening.

“B2 Platoon crews conducted a quick knockdown fire attack. Fire is under control. Please avoid area. Thank you,” it added.

Whitby Fire and  Emergency Services said fire operations continued, including salvage and overhaul operations. Additional crews will be clearing the scene shortly. Please continue to avoid the area of Blackfriar Avenue and Cachet Blvd. Thank you.

In another update an hour later, the fire service said active fire has been extinguished. Crews are beginning to clear the scene and returning to normal activities.

No injuries were reported.

It thanked the public for their cooperation. It also thanked the police and Durham Paramedics for assistance on scene.
