Officers won’t have to look… they’ll hear you coming

Durham Regional Police Service (DRPS) has apparently gone on an offensive against “loud” cars.

DRPS West Division said on Wednesday officers fined a driver $220 for a loud car.

“DRPS doesn’t care what you drive… but there is no need for it to be as loud as this one was. 😣 $220 in tickets for having a unnecessarily loud car,” said a tweet yesterday.

Earlier, West Division officers said DRPS receives hundreds of complaints each year for loud vehicles.

“Yes it is an offence to have a loud muffler or no muffler, it said adding that DRPS West Division has officers specifically assigned to combat this issue this week.

DRPS East Division also reported several offences.

“Officers from @DRPSEastDiv have laid several charges this week in relation to loud mufflers. Be seen, not heard!”

It said the fine for unnecessary noise is $110, and for improper muffler it is $110.

West Division said: “No matter how many DRPS finds, there always seems to be more cars with ridiculously loud exhaust”.

In a notice to drivers of loud cars, it said officers won’t have to go looking for you, we’ll hear you coming!

  1. I see you are charging loud cars with tickets. This weekend set up on Simcoe Street in Por Perry and stop thos loud Motorcycles, There are ;oud cars but the motorcycles far out number the the cars. There is no need to gun the engines so fast and number two the speeds they do is ridiculous. You couls easily get your months quota of speeding tickets in on day on thsi stretch of road. i saw the mail lady pulled over on King street nothing compares to thos stretch of Road on Simcoe from King ST north on Simcoe to 7A. Pls respond your thoughts?
