Record 195 covid cases take Durham tally to 8,400

Durham Health yesterday posted a record 195 cases for January 6 taking the region’s tally to 8,400 since the count began on February 29. Another 41 cases are under investigation.

Recoveries stand at 7,244, up by 103. There are 912 active covid cases.

There were:

  • 32 new cases in Pickering
  • 54 in Ajax
  • 26 in Whitby
  • 30 in Oshawa
  • 6 in Clarington
  • 5 in Uxbridge, and
  • 15 in Scugog

Thirty-nine cases are hospitalized with 13 in Intensive Care Unit (ICU), and 873 people in home isolation.

Total death toll is at 244 with 202 in long term care homes (LTCHs).

Durham Health reported the highest number of cases so far at 2,462 in Ajax.

Death Toll: 244

Of the 92 reported deaths in Pickering, 86 were in LTCH
Of the 44 reported deaths in Ajax, 33 were in LTCH
Thirty-five deaths were reported in Whitby, 29 in LTCH
Of the 43 reported deaths in Oshawa, 34 were in LTCH
Eight deaths were reported in Clarington [none in LTCH]
22 deaths were reported in Uxbridge, 20 in LTCH
No deaths have been reported in Scugog
No deaths have been reported in Brock
