This man in stolen truck hit a gas station twice with fake cash

DRPS are asking for the public’s assistance in an ongoing investigation into two incidents involving counterfeit currency at a Shell Gas Station in Scugog.

According to police, a male suspect used fake $20 Canadian bills at the Shell station located at Highway 7 and 12 on two separate occasions — Sunday, April 6 and Monday, April 7.

The first incident occurred around 7:05 pm on April 6, when the suspect entered the convenience store and purchased a 12-pack of beer, a pack of cigarettes, and two bottles of soda. Police say he paid with four counterfeit $20 bills and received legitimate currency as change.

The same suspect returned the following day and again used counterfeit $20 bills to make a purchase. In both cases, the man was seen leaving in an older green pickup truck, which police have since confirmed as stolen.

The vehicle is described as a green, older-model Chevy pickup truck with Ontario licence plates 80361T.

The suspect is described as a white male, about 50 years old, with a heavy build, an unshaven moustache, and goatee. On April 6, he wore a yellow toque, black hoodie, and a green-and-black plaid jacket with a large rip in the back. On April 7, he was wearing a yellow toque, a black leather jacket, a black T-shirt with a flying eagle graphic, and blue jeans.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact D/Cst. Kane of Financial Crimes Unit at 1-888-579-1520 ext. 5371.
