Pickering Animal Services is hosting a low-cost Rabies Vaccination and Microchip Clinic for local pet owners.
The clinic will be held on Saturday, May 3, from 11 am to 4 pm at the Chestnut Hill Developments Recreation Complex (O’Brien Room), located at 1867 Valley Farm Road in Pickering. Pet owners bringing cats are encouraged to attend between 11 am and 12 pm.
Each service — rabies vaccination or microchipping — will cost $30. While cash payments are preferred, other payment methods will also be accepted.
Pickering is reminding residents that vaccinating pets against rabies and ensuring they are microchipped are vital steps to keeping both pets and community members safe. The rabies vaccine helps prevent animals from contracting the disease after contact with a rabid animal, while microchips significantly increase the likelihood of a lost pet being returned to its owner.
“As responsible pet owners, it’s our duty to create a safe environment for everyone in our community – both people and pets,” said Lindsey Narraway, Supervisor, Animal Services. “By keeping your pet’s vaccinations up-to-date and ensuring they’re microchipped, you not only protect their health, but ensure if your pet goes missing – there’s a greater chance you’ll be reunited.”
The event is drop-in only, with no registration required. Attendees should park at the rear of the complex near the arena entrance and ensure their pets are either on a leash or in a secure carrier.
All dogs must comply with the City of Pickering’s Responsible Pet Ownership By-law (6811/07) and Ontario’s Dog Owners’ Liability Act. Dogs with characteristics similar to a Pit Bull are required to wear a muzzle while at the clinic.
