Uber driver tips off suspect stabber of two at Whitby bar

A 22-year-old male has been arrested after stabbing two employees of a bar early Monday morning, said Durham Police.

On Monday, October 23 at about 2:20 am, members of Central West Division responded to reports of an armed person at the Royal Hotel located at 171 Brock Street North in Whitby.

Police arrived on scene and located two adult males suffering from stab wounds. Both males were transported to a Toronto area trauma centre with serious but non-life-threatening injuries, said a police statement.

The suspect fled the area prior to police arrival. A short time later an Uber driver alerted police to a suspicious male passenger. A traffic stop was initiated and the passenger was confirmed to be the suspect from the stabbing. He was taken into custody without incident.

The condition of both victims has since been upgraded to stable, police said.

The suspect of Oshawa was charged and held for a bail hearing. Name and further details available at www.drps.ca.

Anyone with new information about this incident is asked to contact Det. McInall of the Central West Division Criminal Investigations Branch at 1-888-579-1520 ext. 1847.
