Volunteer for CATS Bowmanville Creek cleanup

The Central Lake Ontario Conservation Authority (Cloca) is looking for 30 volunteers from the Municipality of Clarington to help with the Conservation Area Trail Stewards (CATS) in the Creek clean-up program.

The program is supported by the Clarington Community Funding Program.

Cloca launched its CATS program in January 2020 as a pilot project to help improve the experiences for visitors. Identifiable by their yellow volunteer vests, Cloca’s CATS visit various trails to pick up litter, report hazard trees and engage visitors by sharing reminders and best practices about keeping the area protected and the animals safe and wild, said a statement.

The CATS program is being expanded into the Clarington community for two separate day events where garbage accumulation is an issue from seasonal fishing activities along various creek systems. The creek clean-ups will focus on areas along the Bowmanville Creek Valley, and the Valleys 2000 Fish Ladder (Bowmanville Valley Trail) and are scheduled for:

  • Saturday, October 1, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
  • Saturday, October 22, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The CATS in the Creek program is only open to residents of Clarington. High school students can participate. However, they must be supervised by a parent or guardian.

Register online for the CATS program.
