What you need to know of Whitby’s phased reopening

Last Friday (October 22), the Ontario government announced a new gradual plan to safety reopen the province and manage Covid-19 for the long-term.

As a result, the Town of Whitby will continue its cautious approach to reopening its indoor recreation facilities, said a town statement.

It is starting with the following changes:

Civic Recreation Complex Health Club – Effective Thursday, October 28, the town will be increasing capacity limits at the Whitby Civic Recreation Complex Health Club and pre-booking of work-out times will no longer be required. Anne Ottenbrite Pool – Effective Monday, November 1, the town will be increasing capacity limits at Anne Ottenbrite Pool at the Iroquois Sports Complex and pre-booking of swim times will no longer be required. All change rooms will be open and available for use. To view the current pool schedule, visit whitby.ca/Swim. The CRC pool remains closed for renovations.

Arenas – The first week of November, public skating and shinny programs will resume at full capacity limits at the Iroquois Park Sports Centre and McKinney Centre. For the full schedule of public skating and shinny programs, visit whitby.ca/Skate. Arena Rental Permit applications are also now being accepted and will be reviewed based on availability.

Meeting and Event Space – Starting in December, private bookings for meeting and event space at Whitby’s community centres will be expanded to 100 per cent of the room’s capacity. Groups interested in booking a space can email facilities@whitby.ca or call 905-668-7765 to learn more about availability.

Vaccination Proof and Covid-19 Screening – Proof of full vaccination, along with identification, will still be required of all patrons 12 years and older to enter a town recreation facility at every visit. A Covid-19 pre-screening must also be completed and presented before entering the facility. Health and safety measures will continue to be in place and must be followed by all who enter the facility.
