This weekend, on June 13th, Whitby Public Library’s will be hosting its first ever book sale, with prices starting as low as 50 cents.
“This exciting event has been years in the making,” said Rhonda Jessup, library CEO. “This is something our community has been asking for, and we feel the time is right. This book sale will help people access affordable materials while generating support for the important work at the library.”
The book sale takes place on June 13 from 10 am to 4 pm at the Whitby Central Library branch; at 405 Dundas Street West. The line-up will begin outside the north-east door.
The call for material donations went out mid-May and the response has been overwhelming. Staff have been sorting through thousands of books, DVDs, magazines, and more that have been dropped off at all Whitby Library locations.
The sale will include a wide range of titles for every age and interest. This is the chance to discover hidden gems and stock up on great reads.
The cost for items are as showcased below. Sets, such as series sets or bundled items, will be priced slightly higher.
- Kids books: $1
- Paperbacks: $2
- Hardcovers: $3
- Magazines $0.50
- Audiobooks $2
- Specialty items: $5–$10
All proceeds from the book sale go directly toward supporting the extensive services and programs available at the library.
There will also be giveaways at the sale. The more you spend, the higher value the giveaway. If you spend $5, you earn a sticker. $15 gets you a keychain. Spend $25 and you’ll receive a Library tote bag. Spending $40 will get you a vintage Library print. (One item per customer while supplies last).
The sale takes place in Meeting Room 1 on the main floor of the Central Library. The event is accepting cash, debit, and credit cards.
“We are truly grateful for the support from our community, and we have no doubt our patrons will be delighted with what they discover at the sale,” said Jessup.
