Two robbers force way in to bank but leave with small change

Durham police are searching for three suspects following a violent attempted bank robbery in Ajax.

According to police, the incident occurred around 8:40 am on Monday, June 2, at the Equity Credit Union located at 1-299 Kingston Road East. Officers from West Division responded after three suspects attempted to rob the bank as an employee was arriving to open for the day.

Police say the suspects grabbed the employee at the front doors and forced their way inside. Once inside, a second employee was held at gunpoint while the suspects demanded access to the vault. Unable to gain entry, the suspects instead stole personal items and cash from the victims before fleeing the area in a black sedan.

One of the victims sustained physical injuries and was treated by paramedics at the scene.

Descriptions of the suspects provided by police are as follows:

  • Suspect #1: Male, Brown, wearing a black mask, beige sweater, light pants, black gloves, and black running shoes.
  • Suspect #2: Male, Brown, heavy build, wearing a black mask, black jacket, black pants, and dark running shoes.
  • Suspect #3: Believed to be the driver of the vehicle. No further description available.

Investigators are asking anyone with dashcam, cellphone, or surveillance footage from the area—or anyone with information about the incident—to contact the Robbery Unit at 1-888-579-1520 ext. 5355.
