Durham Regional Police say two youths have been arrested in connection with a swarming incident that took place at a Pizza Pizza in Oshawa earlier this month.
A third suspect is currently wanted, and police are still working to identify a fourth individual involved. A fifth suspect, an 11-year-old boy, has also been identified but cannot be charged due to his age.
The incident occurred on Wednesday, July 2, around 12:30 am, when officers from Central East Division were called to the Pizza Pizza at 199 Wentworth Street West for reports of an assault. Police say one individual jumped behind the counter and attempted to take an item. When confronted by the victim, a violent struggle broke out. Several others then joined in, jumping behind the counter and assaulting the victim in what police describe as a swarming.
A 13-year-old and a 14-year-old female have been charged with assault causing bodily harm.
A 13-year-old male has been identified and is wanted for assault causing bodily harm, obstruct police, and failing to comply with a release order.
An 11-year-old male has also been identified but is too young to be charged under the Criminal Code.
Police are still seeking to identify a fifth suspect, described as a Black female, about 12 to 15 years old, with a thin build and long braids. She was wearing a grey t-shirt, grey spandex pants, and black sandals at the time of the incident.
Investigators noted that there is no evidence at this time to suggest hate was an aggravating factor in the assault.
Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact Detective Baldini of the Central East Criminal Investigations Branch at 1-888-579-1520 ext. 2765.
