Seasons Clarington resident Shirley Murphy outperformed 20 of the participating retirement residences across Ontario and Alberta to win the gold medal for the Seasons Retirement Communities Olympic Fitness Challenge.
The Olympic Fitness Challenge was inspired by the recent Beijing Winter Olympics to encourage physical activity among Seasons Retirement Communities. Every time residents exercised, they were awarded points for their efforts which added towards their final score, said a Seasons’ statement.
“Shirley is an amazing woman. She averages between four to five hours of walking a day and even participates in the exercise classes at Seasons,” says Fun Manager Laura Sleeman.
Dedicated to promoting healthy and active living, Seasons has also partnered with StrongerU Senior Fitness which allows team members to complete an online certification, including theoretical and practical knowledge. This enables them to teach quality, safe, effective and engaging senior fitness classes and get access to pre-choreographed content monthly.
“We understand the importance of physical activity at every stage of life, especially for older adults. At Seasons, we’ll work to support our residents in their journey to become as healthy and active as possible, regardless of their fitness level,” says Sleeman.
Shirley enjoyed celebrating this honour with team members, friends and neighbours at Seasons Clarington.
