GO Train Work: Rouge River trail to Rodd Ave. closed

The ongoing work to upgrade GO Train tracks at the Rouge River Bridge by Metrolinx, has also resulted in the closure of the trail over the weekend.

To accommodate this work, the trail will be closed from the Rouge River through Rodd Avenue (Pickering) from April 22 to April 24, said a Metrolinx update.

There is no GO Train service on Lakeshore East from April 22-24 to accommodate continued rehabilitation work on the Rouge River Bridge and other important track work along the corridor.

During the weekend of April 22, the track on both approaches will be removed, and excavation will take place to install new precast concrete retaining walls and approach slabs, said Metrolinx.

“This will necessitate the use of large cranes that will involve lifting over the trail, hence the reason for the closure, said the statement.

Construction in the area was scheduled to begin Friday, April 22 at 6 pm, and will be continuous until the start of service on Monday, April 25 at 6 am.

A railway worker died on the Lakeshore East Line in an accident last November 27 (click here for story), during rehabilitation work on the Rouge River Bridge area in Pickering. Work had to be stopped then for Labour Ministry investigation.

Metrolinx said buses will replace train service for the weekend beginning late Friday evening.

Replacement buses will service Union Station Bus Terminal and Pickering, Ajax, Whitby and Oshawa GO stations. There will be no service at Rouge Hill, Guildwood and Eglinton GO, Scarborough and Danforth stations during this time.

Train service will resume on Monday, April 25.
