UPDATE: Stabbing suspect charged with first degree murder

A 41-year-old suspect was arrested overnight after a stabbing in Whitby that claimed the life of a 44-year-old man.

On Wednesday, July 13 at about 3:36 pm, members of Central West Division responded to a call on Regatta Crescent in Whitby for a stabbing call. Police found the male victim with life-threatening injuries. The male was transported to a Toronto-area trauma centre where he was later pronounced dead as a result of the injuries he sustained, said a police update.

The suspect fled in a vehicle but was later located at a trailer park in Kirkfield. With the assistance of Air1 and members of the Ontario Provincial Police, the suspect was arrested without incident.

The suspect from Whitby has been charged with First Degree Murder. Name and further details available at www.drps.ca.

Forensic investigators were called to the scene to gather evidence.

This is the 10th homicide in Durham Region.

A man died yesterday as a result of stab wounds suffered during a domestic dispute incident in Whitby.

Durham Regional Police Service (DRPS) said the male was pronounced deceased at hospital. Homicide investigators have been notified.

By late evening the suspect was not in custody, and efforts were ongoing to locate the person.

Officers from DRPS Central West Division were at the scene of a domestic-related stabbing on Regatta Crescent in South Whitby.

One male with life threatening injuries was transported to a trauma centre.
