The Ontario government has allocated $93,000 to expand access to dementia care and support services in the Durham Region.
This funding will support the Alzheimer Society of Durham Region’s First Link Care Navigation program, which connects individuals living with dementia and their families to care, resources, and education.
“This funding will enhance the lives of Whitby and Durham Region residents living with dementia and connect them with vital resources,” said Lorne Coe, MPP for Whitby.
The investment is part of a $6.9 million province-wide initiative over two years, aimed at supporting approximately 7,000 new clients and hiring 36 full-time equivalent staff to reduce wait times. Clients will receive assistance with care planning, coordination, and referrals to community services.
Peter Bethlenfalvy, MPP for Pickering-Uxbridge, highlighted the significance of localized support: “This investment will ensure individuals living with dementia in Pickering and Uxbridge can access the care and support they need.”
