Pedestrian falls unconscious on 401, saved by officers

Officers of Durham Regional Police Service (DRPS) again proved to be heroes when they were able to save the life of a man on foot who fell unconscious on Highway 401.

On Thursday August 3 at about 10 am, members of DRPS Central West Division responded to Highway 401 in Whitby where a man was reportedly jumping in front of vehicles.

Upon arrival, the officers noted that the man was in medical distress. He fell unconscious, said a police statement.

Officers were able to safely stop the morning traffic on the busy highway. They administered Narcan to the unconscious man.

He was transported to a local area hospital for treatment.

The man has since been medically cleared, said the police statement.
