Police search for two carjackers who fled, crashed stolen car

Durham Regional Police is searching for two suspects who fled on foot after a stolen vehicle evaded officers in Pickering on Sunday, May 25.

According to police, officers from West Division responded around 1 pm to a report of a stolen vehicle spotted by its owner at a plaza at 1355 Kingston Road. When officers arrived and attempted to approach the vehicle, it sped off, driving over a sidewalk and exiting the parking lot at a high speed.

Police say the fleeing vehicle struck two parked cars but, due to public safety concerns, officers did not pursue it.

Shortly after, police received a report that the same vehicle had mounted a curb and become disabled near 1350 Fieldlight Boulevard. By the time officers arrived, the two male suspects had fled the area on foot.

A perimeter was set up, and the DRPS K9 Unit searched the area, but the suspects were not found.

Both suspects are described as white males wearing all black clothing.

The DRPS Project Attire Auto Theft Unit is now handling the investigation. Project Attire is part of Ontario’s Preventing Auto Thefts (PAT) Grant program, which supports initiatives targeting vehicle theft.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective Brown of Project Attire at 1-888-579-1520 ext. 7827.
