Residents trigger cut in height of planned multi-tower project

Residents feedback has trigerred a reduction in the height of a planned multi towers project in the Municipality of Clarington.

The proposed development is planned at Highway 2 and Bowmanville Avenue in Bowmanville, and envisages some 3,900 home units.

On June 17, Clarington residents participated in a Statutory Public Meeting regarding a Weston Consulting application on behalf of Kaitlin Corp. for the proposed development, said a municipal update.

The proposal, which would be developed in phases, consisted of nine high-rise mixed-use buildings with heights ranging from 30 to 40 storeys.

The Clarington update said during the public meeting, council listened to residents’ feedback and passed a motion directing staff to work with the developer to resubmit a plan for a maximum of 18 storeys.

It said the reduction in height is more consistent with the proposed Bowmanville West Urban Centre and Major Transit Station Area Secondary Plan.

  1. This is silly to fight it, Ajax and Pickering are allowing 60 stories near GO-Train stations. Oshawa will allow 40 stories, as will Whitby. Population growth is exploding and Clarington council appears to be stuck way in the past.
