The Uxbridge-Scugog Animal Shelter has announced that it is responding to to concerns regarding a local kennel.
“The Township of Uxbridge is aware of allegations made regarding the private kennel located in Scugog. The Uxbridge-Scugog Animal Shelter staff investigate all complaints to ensure compliance. We take the health and welfare of animals very seriously,” said a brief statement.
Cruelty to any animal is not tolerated in Ontario. If you think any animal is in distress or being abused, call the Provincial Animal Wellness Services (PAWS) at: 1-833-9-animal (264625).
Three Fined
Three individuals have been convicted of offences under the PAWS Act, the province announced last week.
On August 18, in the Ontario Court of Justice in the Municipality of Windsor, Andrew Martens and Shannon Tonita pled guilty to one count each of permitting an animal to be in distress contrary to section 15(2).
Martens and Tonita were each fined $500 and issued a lifetime prohibition on owning, having custody or care of, or living with animals.
And on September 2, in the Ontario Court of Justice in the Municipality of London, Brian Kocsis was found guilty of the following offences under the PAWS Act:
- one count of permitting an animal to be in distress contrary to Section 15(2)
- two counts of failure to comply with prescribed standards of care contrary to section 13(1)
Kocsis was fined $5,000.
