22 trucks taken out of service in Durham safety blitz

In a joint effort to enhance road safety, the Durham Regional Police Service (DRPS), the Ontario Ministry of Transportation (MTO), and the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) conducted a three-day commercial vehicle safety initiative across Durham Region.

The initiative, which took place from November 19 to 21, involved inspecting 172 trucks. Of those, 22 vehicles were immediately taken out of service due to serious safety violations, such as faulty brakes and improperly secured loads.

Additionally, officers issued 100 charges for various mechanical and documentation infractions.

The DRPS will continue to collaborate with MTO and OPP to conduct regular commercial vehicle safety initiatives throughout the year.
