Go by the road signs and not your GPS, warns police

It could very well be true that we, as humans, have come to rely so heavily on technology that we put our own senses in abeyance at times.

This is exactly the point Durham Regional Police Service (DRPS) was trying to make to the driver of a truck who was perhaps merrily driving along a ‘no-truck’ road in Clarington.

See that sign (image above)… no commercial trucks allowed on Clarington Concession Road 7 at Langmaid Road, officers from DRPS East Division reportedly told the truck driver.

Officers are constantly hearing the excuse: ‘But my GPS told me to go here’, said the DRPS.

“Go by the signs and NOT your GPS,” it added.

It said the driver got a fine for disobey sign of $110 and two demerit points.

Meanwhile, in another unnamed part of Durham, DRPS Traffic Services updated yesterday saying they issued several tickets for speed.

For those interested, the highest speed so far in this 50 zone has been 81 kmh with the vast majority of the traffic driving appropriately, they said.

Don’t be the one that puts everyone at risk, they added.
