New regular bus service for Brock residents…finally

The Township of Brock is excited over the announcement of a new bus service for township residents.

A new bus service in Brock had been a long-standing demand for the geographically vast township with spread-out communities.

Starting Monday, May 5, Durham Region Transit (DRT) announced the pilot of new scheduled service in Brock. This route will replace On Demand service during the hours of operation, said a brief alert.

The township has been campaigning for a reliable bus service, and about a year ago, frustrated Brock Mayor Walter Schummer, appealed in an interview with Durham Post to the region and DRT to solve its bus problem (see below).

He had said bus transport was an issue last local elections and it was so serious that it seemed almost on a weekly basis, top Brock officials were having conversations with DRT top brass.

Brock mayor pointed out that a lot of people in the vast municipality don’t have a car, either can’t afford one or don’t have access to it. GO bus was lost in 2023. Youth in other areas without vehicles suffered as most jobs were in Beaverton.

Mayor Schummer had said the on-demand is an excellent service—but if it picks somebody up and takes them to a doctor’s appointment in Uxbridge, it doesn’t bring them back.
