Suspicious package was not capable of detonating: police

Durham Police yesterday clarified that the suspicious package delivered to a business in Whitby, was not capable of detonating.

In an update, the police said the investigating officers believe this to be an isolated incident and the investigation is ongoing.

On Wednesday, October 26 at about 12:45 pm, members from Central West Division responded to the area of Thickson Road South and Wentworth Street after they received information that an employee received a suspicious package.  The area was sealed off and our Explosive Disposal Unit (EDU) was called in, said a police statement.

The EDU conducted a controlled detonation of the device, and the area was made safe.  Officers continued their on-scene investigation, and it is believed that this device was not capable of detonating, it pointed out.
