The Town of Whitby has secured a 60 plus hectares of land in North Whitby for a future outdoor sports field complex.
Located on the east side of Duffs Road, north of Brawley Road, the site will expand field capacity and support increasing participation in cricket, soccer, and baseball as Whitby continues to grow. The site is planned to accommodate six baseball diamonds, six soccer fields, and two full-size cricket pitches.
The town will develop the lands through a multi-phase, multi-year approach, with construction timing aligned with Whitby’s growth and budget planning.
A draft site concept released outlines how the space could be designed to meet community needs. The concept builds on feedback gathered through Whitby’s Parks and Recreation Master Plan. Future additional engagement with residents and user groups will be planned to help refine the design, amenities, and programming.
The Town selected the site for its size, flexibility to support multiple field types, and proximity to growth in North Whitby.
Building on the momentum of the upcoming opening of the Fieldgate Sports Complex, the Town of Whitby is taking another step to expand recreational space and meet growing community demand – securing more than 60 hectares of land in North Whitby for a future outdoor sports field complex.

“This is an exciting step forward as we continue building a complete, connected community that grows with our residents. Securing this land reflects the priorities set out in Whitby’s Community Strategic Plan — investing in recreation, expanding access to green space, and planning proactively for the needs of a growing population. The need for more sports fields was also identified in our Recreation Master Plan. As this project moves forward, input from residents and user groups will be key to shaping a space that truly reflects Whitby’s needs,” said Mayor Roy.
Matt Gaskell, Chief Administrative Officer, stated that “We’ve heard clearly that demand for field sports is growing – this project responds directly to that feedback. By taking a phased, multi-year approach, we can build thoughtfully, align with available funding, and continue shaping the plan alongside the community.”
