Five teens charged after weed whiff leads to guns and drugs

Durham police say five people are facing charges after officers discovered loaded firearms, drugs, and cash during a traffic stop in Whitby.

According to police, members of Central West Division were conducting proactive patrols around 4 am on Saturday, July 26, in the area of Thickson Road South and Consumers Drive when they noticed a suspicious vehicle and pulled it over.

While speaking with the occupants, officers detected a strong smell of cannabis and proceeded to search the vehicle and those inside. The search resulted in the seizure of two loaded firearms, ammunition, a quantity of drugs, and a large amount of cash.

An 18-year-old male and a 17-year-old male, both from Oshawa, as well as, an 18-year-old male, a 17-year-old male and another 17-year-old male from Pickering were all charged and held for bail hearings. Name and further details available at www.drps.ca.
